I love weddings! It is such a joyous and wonderful occasion celebrated with friends and family. What I love even more, is singing at weddings. I’ve been a wedding singer for YEARS and I have absolutely no memory as to when this all started. I cannot even remember the last time I was at a wedding where I did not sing at least one song. But nevertheless, I love it. I’m not sure what it is, but I just feel like I am somehow contributing more joy to this already joyful day.

I usually sing at weddings with my good mates Josh and Janice, who accompany me in the endless list of love songs. We would spend hours upon hours to rehearse our songs before getting the grandmas all giggly by unleashing Richard Marx old time favourites or pleasing the younger generation with some Taylor Swift and One Direction. I must admit however, singing so many love songs over and over can become a bit of an overkill. That’s why I welcome non-wedding gigs where I can sing a few more depressing songs….. just to balance it out a bit you know?

As I am writing this, I am amused by the connotations that wedding singing is all about impressing the single ladies and planting the seeds in a potential’s heart that maybe one day, just maybe, you’ll be in the same position as the couple who hired you in the first place. Maybe there is some truth to that…….. Either way, is wedding singing anything like that Adam Sandler movie or that TV show “Wedding Bands”? Absolutely not!

These were taken at the DreamInc Workshop a few years ago! It was a workshop which ran over a few days to help musicians develop themselves as artists. I have been taking singing lessons at the David Jaanz School of Singing since 2009. There is no doubt that this school is the best singing school in Australia to provide such a wonderful event for students to attend, as well as developing dozens of artists that we hear on the radio today.

Loved Natalie Bassingthwaighte. What an amazing singer! I had absolutely no idea how beautiful and strong her vocals were. She is a beautiful person inside and out. It came to a great surprise to see that she was shorter than me! I had a bit of a crush on Brooke Fraser……………. Ever since I went to the Hillsong Conference and listened to her beautifully constructed songs, she is someone who uses music to communicate the Gospel of Jesus Christ in such a creative and relatable way.
